If I had $1.00 for each time I said something along the lines of “If I stopped going out to eat and drink I would never have to worry about watching my weight” I would never work again and I’d buy you all a cocktail.
A skinny cocktail, of course, which is the name of Karen Bobos’ game as the founder of Skinny Socials, a company that launched in January and organizes health-conscious cocktail parties, social events and corporate functions. Skinny Socials scouts local restaurants for ‘Skinny Social Certified’ items that are low-calorie and health-conscious, including appetizers, entrees and cocktails. They can also help groups plan figure-friendly social or professional events – so you’ll never again have to fight that internal battle with the cookie tray at your conference or the margaritas at happy hour with the girls.
“Parties should be fun, not fattening,” says Bobos. ”I am an exercise physiologist and have been training clients in Chicago since 2001. I grew tired of telling them to limit dining out because it is too difficult to monitor nutrition. Now I tell them, it’s OK to dine out, but choose our Skinny Social Certified restaurants and the menu items we suggest.”
Bobos believes that everyone should be able to socialize, attend parties and dine out without worrying about fitting into their jeans the next day – or worse, worrying about the health consequences that result from overindulgence.
Skinny Socials will help celebrate the upcoming summer solstice with its Summer Solstice White Party at The Red Canary tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Red Canary is providing three nutritious appetizers and guests can sip low-calorie Grey Goose Vodka and Bacardi Rum cocktails.”
