Are you looking for a quirky, funky gift store in Chicago? Then Art Effect is the perfect place. If you prefer boutique to big box, Art Effect on Armitage Avenue in Lincoln Park has nearly everything you could want in a shop.
Shop from clothing, accessories and cosmetics to great gift items like home décor, candles, books and stationary — for men and women of all ages (kids too!). Just be warned: shopping here can be both dangerous and addicting. Last week I visited to “window shop” but instead wound up pulling out my credit card when I found perfect gifts for my sister, my best friend…and of course myself.
First, let’s talk clothing. Art Effect has a vast selection of dresses in a number of materials perfect for any occasion. It’s hard to find an affordable store where you can shop for work, evening and weekend wear in one stop, but that’s one of the things we love about Art Effect. We also love that you’ll find reputed designers, including Miss Me, Splendid, Free People and Kensie, alongside up-and-coming labels.
Velvet Tally Shirt Dress in a bold violet and orange print perfect for fall, this is a great style for a working woman who needs a dress for to take her from day to nig
Velvet Thelma Wrap Dress is slightly dressier than your standard office attire, but an asymmetric twist around the waist makes this dress flattering for all body types. And if you are looking for casual, cozy items for the cold weather that is approaching, there are plenty of sweaters as well.ht, from the office to happy hour.
Thml Burnt Orange Cocoon Cardigan is a great layering piece for with T-shirts and tank tops. A long cardigan looks best when paired with skinny jeans or leggings, and this color is striking and a seasonal favorite as the weather cools off.
Me & Kashmiere Pink Tri-Tone Scarf is another item perfect for layering to add the finishing touch to your fall outfits. The scarf is coral, turquoise and pink and the soft cashmere feels paper-thin. Asid
There is a wide selection of gift items at Art Effect as well. If you feel like splurging for someone (or yourself) you’ll find plenty of home decor and novelty items, like a Takeout Menu Organizer (for cheap students like me who don’t know how to cook themselves) and polka-dotted Rae Dunn Chintz measuring spoons. There are also several funny gift items, such as The Hungover Cookbook, a tea duckie — which yes, you guessed correctly, is basically a rubber ducky for your teacup.
